Earlier this year Paul Gorman, author of The Look, Adventures in Rock and Pop Fashion (Adelita) launched his fashion label 'The Look Presents' with Soho boutique owner Max Karie- and after two successful collaborations with Wonder Workshop and Nigel Waymouth (founder of Granny Takes A Trip) this November sees the final drop, the Antony Price 'Priceless' collection for Topman.
Antony Price steered the course of British fashion through the platform of rock music in the late 1970s and early 1980s by defining the looks of artists such as David Bowie, Steve Strange of Visage and Duran Duran. He most famously worked with Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music, transforming the ruffles and pirate-esque trappings of the New Romantic trend into something altogether sharper and more elegant. “I decided very early on that I wanted to make other people look good” Price told Gorman in 2000, and with the ingeniously named 'Priceless' collection you get exactly that – classic Price design at a fraction of the cost.
The range consists quality tailored suits, glamorous outerwear, skinny trousers and crisp white shirts. A fittingly dark palette for winter infused with opulent burgundy and purple tones. Highlights of the collection include the Romantic Skinny Trousers (£60), the White Modern Tux Shirt (£50) and the Black Drummer Boy Coat – curiously reminiscent of the one worn by Steve Strange on Visage’s Night Train album cover priced a bargain £100 (see an image of this on Antony Price's website). Just the ticket for today’s louche rock royalty, best accessorized with a smudge of guyliner and a Fender Strat.
