Eley Kishimoto's Hairywood at Covent Garden

Hairywood in Covent Garden.

This summer you can see Covent Garden from a whole new perspective thanks to Hairywood, a collaboration between design duo Eley Kishimoto and 6a Architects. Hairywood is a six metre wooden tower installation carved in the style of Rapunzal's hair. At the top of the tower there is a viewing space overlooking the Piazza.

The tower was originally created in 2005 and displayed in Old Street. It has been positioned in WC2 as part of Somerset's House's Skin + Bones exhibition which explores the relationship between fashion and architecture and features over 200 works including contributions from Alexander McQueen, Boudicca, Vivienne Westwood, Comme des Garcons, Yohji Yamamoto, Martin Margiela and Hussein Chalayan. A model of Hairywood can be seen at Somerset House but visitors can climb the tower in Covent Garden for free until July 20 2008.
