Decadent Dorothy in Cool Croydon

Croydon’s cool! You will find all the bargain brand names there, some of which I am starting to feel extra guilt shopping in! The big label for small prices store where you rummage like a charity shop, home from home for me, only difference it’s newish and someone didn’t die.
Last Friday felt very naughty and took the day off (from myself) to go shopping with my friend Clare who habits cool Corydon. She is such a good person to go shopping with as she knows her own style and it doesn’t turn into work for me. As I can steam in with the designer opinion /stylist thing once asked, can’t help myself.
So after humming and harring over duvet decisions in the TK Max home section, I buy lots of homely bargains. We then stumble on a shop at first which has a look of Laura Ashley when it was cool in the 70s (not now sorry Laura RIP, you only have to ask I am here ready and waiting?) a vintage shop and modern boutique. The shop was called “Decadent Dorothy” a women’s wear shop with a very English feel to it. Not sure where the brand originated need to find out more? What impressed me was the quality of the clothes as wait for it most items were made in England. Yes! MADE IN ENGLAND! (How rare) The clothes oozed madeness, seams bound on tailoring and hems turned double, oh the double decadence!
Need to get clear what made in England means to me and that I haven’t gone on one and a national consumerism rant. For me, it reminds that we still make things and have the skills and craft here to be enjoyed and passed on. Romantic about fashion skills & craft me? YES!
Back to glam, I managed to scoop myself a bargain in the 70% sale a liberty style printed smock top for 14 quid. Felt so good to buy something I really liked, will wear loads, bargain price and it was made here. Oh what hippy top joy. Sadly it then became clear to me that the mass made in England ( M&S manufacturing among many others in the 70s) has all but gone and made in England may become a luxury and an ethical decadence ? Until come the ethical fashion revolution, its ethical sale shopping for me!
If you know of any fashion brands / designers who have either all or items from there collections made in England or UK? Would love to hear from you.
Tara for now
