My first knitted piece, half way there !

Autumn is on the way; don’t be fooled by this fantastic day of sunshine and high temperatures, a cheeky extension to our English Summer. The nights are getting darker earlier and getting that bit nippier so its time to check out the knitted action Ladies.

After attending this coming Autumn Winter season that showed at London Fashion Week in February earlier this year. I thought I would hold back on my blog (very old fashioned)
Giving you some on season style tip inspiration from my observations of what’s on offer. And how to do it with lots of dash for not a lorra cash! Ethically!!

I loved the Estethica section at London Fashion Week it has really grown into an interesting space with a healthy crop of ethical labels on offer. Labels that caught my eye this season were Eloise Grey and Izzy Lane. Eloise Grey’s elegant fine ethical tailoring made from organic Scottish tweeds, loved her queen coat – Elizabeth II.

Izzy Lane, talk about going back to the source, with her 600 strong Izzy Lane flock of Wensleydale and Shetland sheep. They live out their natural lives at her base in the Yorkshire Dales. The wool is knitted into jumpers by a network of 100 hand knitters (that’s the bit I got so inspired by, more about that later) or woven into fabric then made into semi tailoring pieces. Giving a very “Land Girl” look with colours of earthy hues moss greens and browns, very colours of the land...

I know I know I go on about my gran a bit too much but it all had such a “Make do and Mend” feel to it. Something to replace the summer mania of “Growing your Own” such a lot of work for such a mini harvest, not giving up yet! Maybe this winter “Making your Own” Clothes could replace our interest in questioning where all things come from.

Why not rummage the look? If I haven’t found it all before you, here’s what I would rummage for to do the look le vintage et charity. The fashion finds hand knitted jumpers and cardigans from Charity Shops and Bootsales.Preferable knitted and never worn the saved for best types, all ready for you to scoop up for everyday use and wear with love. Tailoring, two pieces all a bit Women’s Institute formidable ladies who make jam... Throw in a 40s hat or hairstyle, a pair of Vivienne Westwood for Mellissa Jelly heels and your off into A/W 09.

Pictured here are two of my fine woolly finds of late. A fab Cream Aran Cardi, great collar and a good slim fitter shape £4.80 from Charity Shop and a Moss Green Mohair Shawl / Scarf from a Boot sale for £1. I have also thrown caution to the wind asked my man’s mum to teach me to knit. I can cast on, cast off, knit one pearl one, knit and Rib. So all those knitting patterns I have been buying because I like the image on the front one day may have a use. But for now I am knitting a scarf!!!!

Cheer up Ladies Summer may be going but there is plenty of styling, making and knitting! Onwards and Upwards towards the new cosy season!
