Alternative Fashion Week 2010 Blog - Singing Silence
Hailing from Finland, designer Heidi Wikar has developed a beautiful collection entitled Singing Silence which she will showcase to the British public during Alternative Fashion Week 2010.
Global warming has brought about dramatic changes to winter weather in northern Scandinavia. Where there was once snow covered mountains, the region is now experiencing an evaporating icy landscape which has prompted Heidi to create clothes appropriate to this 'new winter'. The resulting garments are lightweight (the entire collection was designed to fit into a single 20kg rucksack) intelligently-crafted and cut creations in a palette of deep oranges, mustard yellow and muted snowy shades of white and beige. The cuts are extremely versatile and flexible allowing for maximum movement. Heidi's talent for marrying functionality with an architectural eye is evident throughout.
This could well be one of the strongest collections to grace the Alternative Fashion Week catwalk in 2010.
