Premiere Vision, Paris
Totally touristy but had to be done!!
Hello!
I’m back from Paris, had a great time – I primarily went for Premiere Vision (If you don’t know what that is, find out- it’s really important for a fashion student to know about it!) but I also took in the usual tourist sites. The Gallery Lafayette was good, spent a whole day looking and feeling the clothes in there, some amazing things I wish I could afford to buy! Also found a really unusual shop just round the corner selling more avante guard designers – Gareth Pugh, Viktor and Rolf and others.
Premiere Vision was great, some really interesting textiles- tweeds / country style seemed to be one theme, as well as very futuristic looking fabrics with super shiny finishes. There was also a lot of thick looking volumous fabric which was surprisingly paper thin when touched. Unusual mixes also featured, wool and paper fabric was really textured and irregular, and fabric made from bamboo was so soft. The leather and fur hall also had some good stands – I’m not keen on fur, but I found some unusual textured leathers made from sewing the leather to a backing fabric, and also a stall from Brazil that would put any design you e-mailed them on leather.
For me, this trip was about seeing the textile trends emerging, getting inspiration for the fabrics I will use in my final collection, getting contacts and samples from the stands and getting all the literature I could find.
I’m back to uni tomorrow, so I’m just printing out all of the images I’ve been collecting over the summer – lots of bugs and beetles – ready to put up in my workstation when I go back.
The real hard work starts here!!

Just read through all your blogs, some interesting reading. Keep up the good work.
