Win copies of Eco Chic - The Savvy Shoppers' Guide To Ethical Fashion
Matilda Lee has been editor of The Ecologist Magazine's Green Pages for over two years and introduced an ethical fashion section the magazine, so she was perfectly placed to write a guide aimed at equipping us with the facts. "I have learned about the impacts of our addiction to cheap and disposable fast fashion" she says, "the toxic soup of chemicals that go into making our clothes and carbon emissions associated with our global industry."
This competition is now closed. Winners will be announced shortly.
Eco Chic gives a comprehensive account of how the global clothing industry operates and details how badly many of the 100 million people worldwide (90% of which are women) engaged in making clothes are treated and how fast fashion means we are losing 'hand me downs' by wearing clothes which are so badly made they aren't any use to secondhand shops. There is however, loads of positive content here. Matilda talks to Galahad Clark, the man behind the winner of The Observer's 2007 Ethical Fashion Award, Terra Plana about how he's built up an ethical footwear business, Yvon Chouinard of Patagonia which has pioneered producing organic cotton clothing and Orsola de Castro and Filippo Ricci of From Somewhere, a fashion label which creates collections from textile waste. Matilda also includes lots of suggestions on what we each can do and there is a very decent directory of eco labels.
We have 10 copies of Eco Chic to give away, for a chance to win one just log in and click to enter below. The winners will be chosen at random. Closing date is 12noon on January 25.
Eco Chic - The Savvy Shopper's Guide To Ethical Fashion is out now priced £7.99 and is published by Octopus.
