Alternative Fashion Week 2006
Congratulations to Brighton duo Stevi Jelbart and Emma Sandham King whose burlesque underwear collection, 'Ophelia Fancy' was deemed the best individual collection at Alternative Fashion Week to reflect the theme of 'Time' by the panel of judges. Both are graduates from Brighton University with degrees in Fashion Design and Business. Swatch will provide them with £1,000 in cash (to share) and a month-long work placement with Camilla Staerk.
Well done also to all the students from John Moore's University in Liverpool who showed 'On The Edge of Time' on Monday and won the Swatch College Award for their collection which features vintage fabrics. The uni gets £1,000 plus Swatch Aid equipment including a sewing machine and a masterclass with a "with a leading fashion designer" (tbc).
Last shout goes to the brilliant band this year who were unruffled by designers leaping out from backstage gesticulating or by the vastly different collections to which they had to play appropriately complementary music, and the way on Friday, they played on and on despite the show starting at 1.15pm and not ending until nearly 3pm.
Thanks Maggie Pinhorn and Liz Weston for another amazing event - hope to see you next year.
