Graduate Fashion Week 2007

What a blinding week we've had at the 16th Graduate Fashion Week. Some 47 colleges participated, there were 20 catwalk shows and 25,000 students contributed work. Before being registered as a charity in 1991, Graduate Fashion began life as the Smirnoff Fashion Awards and was founded by John Walford, Vanessa Denza and Jeff Banks in 1989.

Welcome!
This year the organisers introduced a new daily newspaper created by Disorder magazine, two gala shows and awards for both menswear and womenswear. We have had an incredible time and encountered so many talented students and collections - it's been a joy and an inspiration for us.

A huge thanks to our team: Katy Tyrell (who shot our video on Sunday) Selene Pearson (video Mon-Wednesday), photographers David Jones and Gabriela Zajarosov, and the guys who make it all happen behind-the-scenes on fuk.co.uk, Brad and Ben.

Gratitude also to all the students who took time to talk to us about their work. It was inspiring to meet such an enthused bunch of people - Aaron Dowie, Elizabeth Elves, Victoria Bolton, Laura Fields, Angela Christodoulou, Anwen Jenkins, Sheuly Begum Sattar, Lucy Ibrahim, Hannah Risdon, runner-up Kelly Shaw and joint Gold Award winner Jasper Chadprajong.

Also gratitude to all the lovely industry professionals who we interviewed for our video reports. We had chats with Colin McDowell, Zandra Rhodes, Lord Waheed Alli & June Sarpong, Chris Moore, stylist Richard Shoyemi, David Reeson from the Fashion and Textiles Museum, Paul McNicoll from De Montfort University, media consultant Stephen Mahoney, GFW co-founder John Walford, Caryn Franklin, Louise Redknapp and the chairman of Graduate Fashion Week, Terry Mansfield.

We didn't manage to pin down Piers Atkinson - Piers was frantically producing a GFW daily newspaper with the help of a small team of students! You did a great job geez and we'll catch you no doubt at London Fashion Week - we reckon the British Fashion Council would be mad not to get you to do a daily paper for the next London Fashion Week in September.

It would have been incredible to have spoken to Design Director of Lanvin and Gold Award judge, Alber Elbaz as it would have been brillo pads to have had a one-on-one with this fantastic force of fashion and sometime DJ - Alber, next time you are in town, 'gis a shout mate, we'd love to share your magic with the fuk community.
