Ann-Sofie Back fuk@lfw a/w 07
Tue, 13/02/2007 - 4:15pm Covent Garden Piazza, WC2 Ahh, the fickle world of fashion. Just when you think you've got a designer pegged they up and do something completely unexpected. Ann-Sofie Back pulled just such a stunt when she didn't start her show with her usual end of show run-through. Confused? So were we. Using the stand as a starting point Back sent out a series of what she dubbed ‘two-minute garments'. The result is a minimalistic collection of draped clothes created from industrial and utility fabrics, stiff jersey, neoprene and crepe wool held together with elastic tapes and back-pack clips. Garments look unfinished and, on occasion, cobbled together from camping equipment essentials (see the sleeping bag-like puffa jacket with a backpack strap and the top made entirely from bum-bags. But it's not all mud and mayhem on this campsite. Evening knees ups (albeit around the campfire) are catered to with short skirts and feather boas and square toed sandals held to the foot with plastic coil key chains. Just as the audience was relaxing, comforted by into Back's familiar geek-chic aesthetic, the lights went out, the music sputtered to a halt and the show came to an abrupt end. Nerves shredded, we grabbed our things and left. Words: Maia Adams |
