Biba fuk@lfw a/w 07
Wed, 14/02/2007 - 5:00pm No 1 Piazza, Covent Garden, WC2 Inspired by 1920s debutantes, 1970s punks and posh rock chicks the clothes that comprise Biba's A/W07 collection have been given names that allude to the musical stars of those decades – Vargas Skirt, Ziggy Jacket and The Miss Ferry Dress. They don't come out in plain old colours, either. These are in shades of Black Cherry and Midnight Blue to name just two. Despite the grandstanding however there wasn't much to excite here. Sure, it's all very wearable and everso pretty but rather literally interpreted from the original Biba styles and nothing terribly new or that can't be purchased for a fraction of the price elsewhere. On a brighter note, we liked the accessories – particularly the heart-shaped sunnies and enamelled jewellery. Shoes came out in perforated, studded, padded, buckled and embossed leather and a cool new take on the Chelsea boot with a Cuban heel was, the show notes claim, a tribute to New York rockers The Velvet Underground. It's worth mentioning that Biba have also launched an art-nouveu styled Raquel bag that is sure to be a hit, and a rocktastic biker bag range which will appeal to rock chics and groupies everywhere.
