Friday Roundup fuk@lfw a/w 07

The day started for us at the Vauxhall Fashion Scout where Maia witnessed an off-scedule show by Jens Laugesen. Shortly after, it was another Fashion Scout show this time Victim Fashion Street: Mei Lui's label that specialises in one-off dresses. We caught up with her and make-up artist Alex Box who did an amazing job creating spooky antique doll faces on the models using, among other things, craft stickers. She's one of the most talented make-up artists we have found: when Alex works on a show, she really does put heart, soul and a head full of creativity into it.

After this it was off to Heaven - one of our city's most enduring nightclubs - for a double header. Two very different London-based labels showed back-to-back. First Unconditional, which IMHO delivered a fast dose of proper London attitude and style - fantastic menswear that offers beautifully made pieces which are totally of the moment. Great show. Then the dramatic and supershiny world of Ashish. This west London designer took full advantage of the dark and dingy club setting - his dresses literally lit up the audiences' faces.

Next we jumped on a Fashion Week bus and headed to the tents for another powerful LFW performance by Mr Bora Asksu. I fell into a whirly dream when his pink and purple pieces seemd to be yanking me out of my seat and pulling me towards them, Bora's crafted skills are quite breathtaking and he has always staged smooth and gracious catwalk shows.

Then it was a dash around the corner (hooray not far) to catch-up with our favouite Scot showing off-schedule, Ms Laura Lees. Having recently moved from her old east London stomping ground into the people's republic of Camden Town, Laura has, she told me, been having a good laugh at the goths spilling out of the clubs and this has inspired her collection which includes customised spikey shoes and spikey leggings.

Fashion Fringe winner Gavin Douglas held his LFW debut with a glossy series of outfts inspired by travelling. "This is the first show I've been to at London Fashion Week" he beamed, "and it is mine!" What a joy to have an enthusiastic hard worker like Gavin around - we wish him huge luck. We had a few words with one of the hardest working men at LFW, show producer Mr John Walford. You can see from our video what a special character he is and our LFWs would not be the same without a chat with John. Final show of the Week then for us was the MAN menswear showcase in New Oxford Street.
