Wed, 14/02/2007 - 9:00pm Vauxhall Fashion Scout, Baden Powell House, SW7 Over at the Vauxhall Fashion Scout, Julia Clancey showed a series of red carpet showstoppers with a 1920s feel. The models swayed in flapper fringing, drop-waists, silky satin gloves and finger-waved hair. Neon-pink futuristic make-up brought the vintage look into the 21st century.
Glamour was the order of the day with rich, regal colour and glittering embellishments on hems, sleeves and necklines. Opulent velvets, silks and chiffons help create a feeling of sumptuous luxury. Roses were strewn along the catwalk and the soundtrack screamed ‘V.I.P' just in case we mistook this collection as one for us mere mortals.
Though plunging necklines and thigh-grazing kaftans feature throughout, there's nothing trashy about any of the pieces. A 1920s silhouette is the most prominent and successful of the collection but lace-detailed corseted gowns have plenty of ‘va-va-voom' and delicate empire-line babydolls add femininity to the overtly sexy and dramatic.
Details such as pillar-box hats and billowing velvet capes add character to the series of red carpet ready femme fatale frocks. Backless, bejewelled mini-dresses in glinting gold and ruby scream for the attention they deserve and will no doubt get. Expect them soon at a premiere near you.
