Thursday Roundup fuk@lfw a/w 07

Gawd I am cream crackered. Getting to off-schedules, on-schedules on the shows that fall in-between those Fashion Week cracks is a challenge and a half. I am gutted that we missed a couple of shows we would have liked to cover because off-schedules started so so late.

But on a very positive note my prayers were answered today with an off-schedule debut at St Bartholomew's Church in Smithfield. Massey launched her own name label in Paris in January 2007 and this was the RCA graduate's first show in London. What a stonking collection of menswear for autumn/winter - imaginative tailoring with wonderful twists and details - leather worked into trousers, wool capes and tuxedos with chains - I loved all of this collection and it was a delight to see someone execute an off-schedule show with such maturity.

The team covered some on-schedules today including Nicole Fahri and Betty Jackson. Mr Gur gives great colour this season and I was astounded when he told me it was achieved using vegetable dyes all of which had been done in his own kitchen.

I saw my first Gardem collection - Paris-based but showing in London for I think the third time - which attracted lots of approval. Nods came from some press front row faces.

Steve J and Yoni P had a packed and buzzed-up crowd for their debut. These Korean-born London-based designers explored Tibet and showed a really impressive selection of menswear and womenswear - loved the knits, printed coats and the make-up.

The Russians are coming!

No, honestly they are. Interviewed Vassa, a very talented Russian designer who has 25 shops in her homeland and is hoping to generate some London interest. Nothing like what you would expect from Russia. She refuses to use fur (hooray) and creates wearable, pared-down pieces which play with details. Really liked her and her clothes but I'm not so enamoured of the Russian excess which accompanied this - outside the Royal Academy where she was showing, there was a fleet of chauffeur-driven cars including a Rolls and a Bentley and someone had seriously decided that the entrance needed a red carpet. I saw a man working at the speed of sound to lay it. We had to laugh, but then this is only the start. There will definitely be a heavier Russian presence at future LFWs. Someone please tell them that a fancy carpet does not a good collection make.
