Ann Sofie-Back
There has been some talk of a Fashion Week curse but we're not having it! OK, there have been some weird-isms like heading off for a show that wasn't on, technical problems with our mic and I won't tell you what happened to Maia on her way to her first show today because that wouldn't be fair, but it involves hair.
Jacob Kimmie is from South Africa and set-up his fashion label in Birmingham eight months ago. He showed a quietly stunning little debut at On|Off this morning. Tony Glenville from the University of Kent spoke to us about what he thought.
We had a chance then to catch up with some of the designers exhibiting at On|Off who are not presenting catwalk shows. Kerry Nixon from Vilder and Nixon, Ivan Lan of Yuchi and Hannah Marshall who has just launched her own label and today received her first two orders! We spoke to Julie Berubé, who commanded her back stage crew with ease and elegance. Wonderful fish-plaited hair by Mark Bailey.
We would have liked to have seen Ann Sofie-Back, who showed at Topshop's Covent Garden venue, but the show ran so late we had to head off to Wildlife Works UK in London Bridge. Good launch collection of Katherine Hepburnesque tailored and casual pieces which are all handmade in Africa with profits from sales going to wildlife conservation projects. We met Karen Savage at the show and really felt that it was ethical fashion that carried its design weight.
Fopp shop on Tottenham Court Road was the location for the off-schedule LFW debut by Daydream Nation. Bit different from the tents or On|Off, this. The catwalk was white paper taped to the floor and there was a cast of seven who mimed and danced the story of the clothes.
