London Fashion Week S/S 2006
Whew. We made it through another Fashion Week. Our super trooper snapper David Jones, captured all the catwalk action while Judith Erwes' Photo Diary takes us behind-the-scenes with a visual documentary of weird and wonderful aspects of the Week. Fashion writer and top gal Maia Adams survived hours and hours of delays, queues, unhelpful PRs and parties. Despite being drained and sometimes dazed, she still managed to file 25 brilliant reports which are way beyond the sugar-coated summaries you find in most publications.
On Sunday, just a few hours after the official opening of LFW, Julien McDonald's show was beseiged by Peta activists protesting at the designers' flamboyant use of fur in his a/w collection. This guaranteed Julien's show front page exposure and his face was indeed quite a picture. Karen Walker's show at Baden Powell House SW7 ran really late and those that stayed reported another triumphant season from the hugely talented Antipodean, while over at the Royal Academy Sabine Brauniger's Customer's Own Property wasn't as well attended but certainly did rock da house.
On Monday, Basso & Brooke delivered the most sumptuous, full-on theatrical show of the entire Week replete with eye-popping prints and musical accessories. We already know that his gothic god-ness, Jean-Pierre Braganza tinkers with tailoring and androgenous themes, but this season saw his best showing yet - dramatic drainpies, cool corsetry and a fantastic collaboration with Judy Blame.
After attending 11 shows on Monday, the team were dog tired but not downhearted! Uplifting moments came courtesy of Collado Garcia's third collection, Eley Kishimoto and a high shine sporty collection by Ashish. On Wednesday, we were treated to a well-crafted collection by Bora Aksu who appeared for the first time on the official schedule and an inspiring display of new talent at Fashion East.
Finally, a big up for MAN, the final show of Fashion Week and the first dedicated menswear event we've had since the short-lived Men's Fashion Week in 1999.
