Fashion East fuk@lfw s/s 06

The Electric Ballroom, Camden High Street, NW1

By the end of LFW day four, those of us who had spent most of the last 96 hours trekking across London, being crushed in queues and getting wired on fast food and fags were in need of a serious pick me up. It came, and how, at Fashion East's 10th season celebrations which mainlined a dose of creativity and high-octane fun straight into our weary systems. Even Tracey Emin looked like she was having a hoot in the front row.

First out came Marios Schwab's spray-on micro dresses. With a nod to the aesthetic of 80s designers Thierry Mugler and Claude Montana, these were constructed to hug the body and embellished with silver metal panels around bust and along seams. Next to hit the ramp were Spijkers and Spijkers with a collection of precision cut garments in striking geometrical shapes. Demonstrating pattern cutting to boggle the brain, the fabric had been worked, origami like, into a series of angles and folds on little jackets and waistcoats.

Gareth Pugh had the honour of closing and chose to do so with spookily wax-faced models encased in costumes spawned from an unholy sci-fi-sportswear alliance. With cricket shin pads re-worked as sleeves and fabric encased balls dangling tumor-like from a body stockinged model, this was an acid trip to Nike Town. And we loved it.
