Avsh Alom Gur fuk@lfw s/s 07
Wed, 20/09/2006 - 12:15pm On|Off, Royal Horticultural Halls, SW1 For S/S 07 Avsh Alom Gur's muse is a woman marooned on a futuristic desert island. Luckily, she's been stranded with a white and ecru collection perfectly suited to a stylish life on the ocean shore. Inspired by fishing nets, large loop knitwear has been designed in collaboration with Kate Wallace using yarns from Italy. Silver neck pieced and jade jewellery accessories simple garments and bathing costumes are festooned with silver charms. Lovely, although in one particularly high-cut number, probably chafing. Perfect for a spot of seaside lounging, chiffon kaftans, pareos and dresses featur a thumb print pattern conceived by textile designer Daniel Rayner as a response to Gur's desire to leave his mark. Dappled, grey and faded in places, they enhance the movement of garments already full of bounce. Raffia work features widely - on a beautiful hat with a brim large enough to cover the shoulders and at the ham of a floor-length dress where it creates a fluted ruffle reminiscent of a coral bed sea creature. If the soundtrack was anything to go by, lucky Desert Island Lady has also been stranded with a stereo playing Prince's greatest hits. If we were her, we wouldn't want to be rescued.
