Holland Park Theatre, W8

Chris Kane graduated from the St Martins MA course just seven months ago and his feet haven't touched the floor since. Donatella Versace employs him as a design consultant and Anna Wintour insisted on a private audience. He is being touted as 'the next big thing' and the hot pink tickets to his show in Holland Park were the day's must-have accessory.

Kane designs for the woman who 'doesn't do nice, doesn't do demure and doesn't do her own laundry'. Even if she did, she wouldn't need much more than a tea-cup to soak her dresses in. Who'd have thought that such a potent blend of inspirations - including Kandinsky's paintings, 90s rave culture and Gianni Versace's excesses - could be condensed into such teeny tiny dresses?

Strips and squares of Swarovski crystals are applied to his trademark stretch lace micro dresses, lace is ruffled around sleeves and necklines, and as if there wasn't enough flesh on show transparent mini skirts were embellished with brass rings and cleverly woven strands of fabric.

It was an exciting show and Kane, who has original vision, really is a breath of fresh air on the London scene. To keep things that way, he now needs to develop those good ideas. Much of what he showed here was not that disimilar to his MA collection but bearing in mind the demands that have been made on his time of late, it's no surprise and hopefully little cause for concern. With new friends like his, we predict that this young Scotsman will be around for some time.
