Friday Roundup fuk@lfw s/s 07

Friday Roundup

We have seen some great shows today and talked to some interesting folk. PPQ started our day at BFC. Last season Percy and Amy's London-based label showed off-schedule. Since then, the duo have secured proper backing from The Pentland Group and on Tuesday 19 September, opened their own boutique on Conduit Street, W1. Wicked show - they've turned down the volume of colour from last season and have widened the range to include swimwear. It was impossible not to love so much of what we saw and that's the thing about PPQ: London girls and boys love it. "I would wear everything I saw" said our Maia and when we bumped into PPQ's make-up artist Alex Box at the MAN show she was just as enthusiastic and told me. "I got a PPQ catsuit/jumpsuit and I just can't stop wearing it." We are genuine fans.

Also at the BFC, Bora. Mr Aksu who has a lot of talent and seems to craft clothes that tell stories through their construction - don't mean to sound poncy but it really is an experience to see what this fella can do with cloth and leather. Read Maia's report please because it was a like a beaufitul puzzle. Bora is a one-off and he had a little chat with us as did one of LFW's most-respected producers, John Walford. As well as talking to us about the show, John gives his opinion on the effect of Armani's diffusion line event on Fashion Week.

Off-schedule next to Aganovich. A breath-taking collection, almost eerie - Nana isn't scared of exploring darker themes - and we all thought it stunning. Couldn't believe what she'd gone through to complete it though - she's had a tough and challenging time and still managed to turn out a strong collection. Hamish Morrow returns to our catwalks and played to a packed house. MAN, the menswear showcase, was in a car park on Brewer Street. Shina-Stanic showed there last season and it is a top venue.

Up until now it's third season, MAN was at the Truman Brewery. I got disorientated and thought we'd gone to the wrong venue but was chuffed to be in Soho not Brick Lane - it's easier to get in and out of. And car parks are my favourite venue. Seen some ace shows in car parks. At MAN we caught-up with mighty menswear talent Deryck Walker. Photographing this event was a huge challenge. The models stopped 2/3 of the way along the catwalk and most didn't actually stop for the cameras. I was disappointed because on Deryck and Cassette Playa's collections the backs of the outfits were full of different details and I don't think we will be able to do justice to that.

This is a real issue during Fashion Week. Organisers need to liaise better with photographers so that they can set up as quickly and get the best shots. I've seen snappers today next to tears cos they couldn't get decent pictures. And when it is at a show where the designer needs to get their work out there and get those orders and show next season, it's tragic.

Wish: To be able to shoot the MAN show again.
