John Rocha fuk@lfw s/s 07
Mon, 18/09/2006 - 11:30am BFC Tents, Natural History Museum SW7 John Rocha's S/S 07 collection is a pretty variation on his now well-established themes. In a clean palette of black, ivory, silver and stone, and in fabrics which include cotton poplin and drill, silk satin, crepe, taffeta, jersey and silver gilt linen, he sent out garments embellished with patchworked details and multiple eruptions of very frilly ruffles. The addition of zips and tapes to nip, tuck and distort added a utilitarian feel to what was otherwise a romantic aesthetic. Cut-away sleeveless jackets, cropped cargo pants and parkas have been deconstructed and washed to give a worn-in, well-loved appearance. Fine parachute silks, linens and Prince of Wales check are worked into cropped outerwear and hand-crocheted elements such as collars on silk shirts and straps on trapeze dresses lends structure as well as visual appeal. Myleene Klass, who was sat on the front row, had probably been drafted in to do the same. Zouave pants and silk trench coats make an appearance as do some really great lace knit leggings and shorts that will work a treat come spring especially when paired with Rocha's crocheted berets, beanies and floppy bags. From clothes to clothes horses: we loved the model with the waist length red hair and Roman nose. As a certain dimwitted BB contestant might demand, 'who is she?'. We want to see more.
