Philip Normal fuk@lfw s/s 07

Retro Bar, George Court, WC2

If ever there was an oyxmoron, Philip Normal's name is it. Normal he's anything but, and his clothes are an extension of his eccentricity. According to his show notes:

"philipnormalturnonwithmeisnotacollection
itswhatsomementalpatientwouldwearifthey
escapedandwenttotheoscars."

By the time we'd deciphered that, the event, held in a grungy pub in WC2, was well underway.

Dispensing with the traditional catwalk format (far too ordinary) Philip and four friends milled amongst the audience and preened and posed on bar stools. They modelled a selection of clothes that are a 'humorous orgy of rock'n'roll glitter. What sex would look like if it was a funny cartoon strip or if clowns had a strip club or a brothel'. The result is silver and gold lurex leotards, skin-tight trousesrs with repeated eye patterns, sock monkeys and retro gay German porn printed vests.

This was followed by a short video in which Miss King and the Kougars sang their new song, and a bunch of electro-clash lovelies dressed in Normal's clothes cavorted and generally got saucy in toilets, on sofas and everywhere they could really. All great fun and very London though what the tourists who stumbled in off The Strand must have thought is anyone's guess.
