PPQ fuk@lfw s/s 07
Fri, 22/09/2006 - 11:00am BFC Tents, Natural History Museum, SW3 If last season was full of colour at PPQ, S/S 07 marks a decidedly less vivid mood. But subdued doesn't mean dull and this was one of our favourite collections of the week. In sand dune palette - greys, blacks, earthy browns and beiges, a smattering of peach a sprinkle of gold they sent out fluttering silk blouses with bibbed fronts and elongated buttoned cuffs, sleeveless shifts in black chiffon with raw armhole edges, tiered dresses with dainty ruffles and belted t-shirt dresses with smartly gathered necklines. On Tuesday, Percy Parker and Amy Molyneux opened their first stand-alone boutique on Conduit Street in the West End and having recently gained security with funding from the Pentland Group, their star is definitely in the ascendant. Despite some of the fashion pack having gone to an Armani party the previous night, there were still plenty of bums on seats at the show - testimony to the fact that this London label has a genuine following. Cute linen boleros and baby matador hats gave a Spanish feel to the styling whilst macramé belts and necklaces add more crafty touches. Ornate curlicues worked into a chain print lend a splash of colour as does the vivid turquoise satin cocktail dress with matching jacket. We had covetous thoughts about the horizontal stripe knitted dresses, the short shorts, black silk playsuit and the transparent black chiffon numbers with white lace ribbons underneath. Finally full marks to the swimwear - new to PPQ - and the press notes that dispensed with the impenetrable guff that 90% of releases indulge in, and gave us a little poem which although abstract, accurately captured the mood of PPQ's Melody Heartbreak collection.
