Spijkers en Spijkers fuk@lfw s/s 07
Mon, 18/09/2006 - 7:15pm On|Off, Royal Horticultural Halls, SW1 Citing a combination of Lewis Carroll and artist Mark Ryder as inspiration, Spijkers en Spijkers delivered a truly wonderful collection juxtaposing sweetness and mischief. We were treated to a succession of subtle day wear with the likes of salmon pink satin shifts, a virginal white cotton apron-style dress and sunny yellow candy-striped shorts with jaunty jacket to match. In contrast, crisp tailoring in sultry shades of charcoal and dusky gold also ruled the runway with the emphasis lying heavily on the waist. The transition from spring-like daywear to stylish eveningwear was effortless. Each piece features the designers' signature clean lines ensuring no item was too fussy - large buttons are simple yet effective embellishments. A unique summery flamingo print pantsuit is one of the more outlandish garments, but is still successful. Cheeky cut-out panels create playfulness with many items and draw the eye away from the obvious erogenous zones leaving more to the imagination, whilst dresses and coats are a trapeze shape, suggestively skimming the body - pure understated sexiness. Overall Spijkers en Spijkers gave us a sophisticated, playful and most importantly wearable collection, which rebels against stereotypical ideas of femininity and showcases the fine line between naughty and nice.
