It's not often you can use the word 'rubbish' when describing a designer's collection and expect to be invited back ever again but in the case of Avsh Alom Gur's show today the description was entirely apt.

Taking as a starting point the kind of materials more commonly found in the bin he sent out a collection full of charm, whimsy and wit. With sponsorship from Raleigh, it was inevitable that the push bike should also feature in a shouldn't-work-but-does bit of styling such as pannier shoulder pads and wheel'n'spoke bracelets.

The collection itself, predominantly jewel coloured dresses with a Grecian feel in cut and drape, is constructed using layers of silk and chiffon. Sandwiched between the opaque fabrics discarded Fox's sweet packets of and plastic shopping bags can be made out. Necklaces are fashioned from empty water bottles and string, and on closer inspection buttons turn out to be plastic caps.

As demonstrated in previous collections Avsh Alom likes to show a crotch-challenging bathing suit and he didn't disappoint this season with some lovely knitted swimwear including a gorgeous, if itsy bitsy teeny weeny, canary yellow bikini.

For our money the best pieces are the garments festooned with jingling Victoria-style medallions made from the re-incarnated remains of Red Bull cans. Lovely. Last season Gur used 9 carat gold in his collection – this season he needed no such fripperies. Proof, perhaps, that's he's finally got wings.
