Eley Kishimoto fuk@lfw s/s 08
Sun, 16/09/2007 - 3:15pm BFC Tents, Natural History Museum, SW7 Early this morning, as those fashion faithfuls who'd forsaken their Sunday morning lie-ins queued for the first show of the day, Erin O'Connor took to the lectern in the pre-show atrium to deliver a speech on a new BFC initiative: The Model Sanctuary. Created to give models a 'place to relax, recuperate and consult a nutritionist without fear of getting snapped' it offers worn out mannequins the chance to re-charge their batteries. What we at fuk.co.uk would like to know is when they're going to set up a Press Sanctuary for those of us who don't have dressers, chauffeurs or even a make-up artist to touch up our shiny bits. Still, all that walking up and down must be exhausting... Anyway, despite end-of-day jadedness Eley Kishimoto provided a welcome shot of (visual) stimulation. The show opened with a model in a cute airforce cap and pretty blue and white skirt and jacket ensemble. What followed was a riot of florals, stripes (we've stuck those tights on our wishlist already) and shapes. Colours from teal and burnt orange to emerald green and sky blue were brought together in layered ensembles where zebra prints vied for space with floral splashes. Our favourites? The long-sleeved, short-hemmed shift with oversized chain detail and Dynasty-esque shoulder pads plus matching bag; giant sun hats; shrunken knitted waistcoats and a parka whose irregular horizontal stripes look like sections through the earth as seen in a particularly technicoloured geology text book. In summary: it's (flying) caps off to husband and wife team Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto for an eminently wearable, utterly desirable collection. Words: Maia Adams |
