Mon, 17/09/2007 - 8:00am Vauxhall Fashion Scout, Baden Powell House, SW7 Ok, so this weekend the weather might have been nice but on the whole it's been a pretty sun-free summer. For a few minutes this morning however, Nicola de Main made us forget the clouds and let us believe that ss08 will be chock full of bright days and balmy nights. From the minute her leggy lovelies strode down the golden catwalk – their gilt shoes flashing and wavy locks floating – you could picture yourself somewhere altogether more tropical.
A leave-nothing-to-the-imagination gold lace dress may not be for everyone but the less demanding shifts in blues and pinks are perfect for a stroll on the shore and while the garments are simple in shape, cute details add character: Peter Pan collars, skirts whose deep pockets scoop from front to back, cute capped sleeves on jersey tops and vibrant orange top stitching on a pair of violet cigarette pants – all catch the eye.
Bias cut dresses are a wardrobe staple perfect for occasions from a trip on the yacht to cocktails at the beach bar and to ramp up the evening sass factor the floor-length floaty chiffon numbers covered in a vibrant graffiti-style print by James Millar (who also works his magic for Jonathan Saunders) were right on the money. All that was missing was the factor 10 and a loaded pina colada.
