For £45, Recycle Your Jeans will turn any pair of jeans you have into a pair of sandals, re-made here in the UK.

Recycle Your Jeans is part of Softwalker Ltd, one of the very few companies still manufacturing shoes in the UK. The factory is in Cumbria, used to be operated by K Shoes before Clarks bought the company. When Clarks moved all of its manufacturing to outside the UK, Softwalker was bought by Mike and Lynn Stables. The sandals made from recycled jeans are called Kalahari and are not dis-similar in style from Birkenstocks and are reportedly very comfortable.

Greenknickers

Run by designer Sarah Lucy Smith and fashion merchandiser Rose Cleary-Southwood, Greenknickers is, just as it sounds, a company specialising in ethical undies. Based in south London, production takes place in India using organic cotton and the UK using hemp and silk, as well as in China (but still fair trade and ethically made the website states).

Bamboo knickers are the business! Bamboo is the world's fastest-growing plant and one of the most sustainable crops we have. People are hailing bamboo as the new cotton. The fibre contains bamboo kun, which apparently means that it has natural anti-bacterial properties and helps inhibit body odour.

Born on a council estate in Shepherd's Bush, Darron (that is his real name, apparently mum wanted a girl called Sharon) Connett has been pursuing a solo career since 2001. You can catch him at one of his London gigs and as well as praise for his self-penned singles, he is also receiving top reviews for his live shows. A 21st century Mod with a down-to-earth attitude and loads of potential.

Cassette Playa film

Instead of staging a catwalk show for her autumn/winter 2007/8 collection, Carri Mundane from menswear Cassette Playa made a film which was shown at MAN. Carri hasn't yet sorted out putting it on her own website (she's too busy working and playing computer games) but you can see it here. Have a look and get crazy dancing.

This independent boutique is based in Hampstead and specialises in hand-selected stock. CoChineChine stocks a really credible crop of womenswear designers including Hussien Chalayan, Spijkers and Spijkers and Vince. Good choice of jeans too. The website isn't selling yet but it does neatly showcase this lovely shop.
