Inbar Spector
Tue, 12/02/2008 - 3:45pm Vauxhall Fashion Scout, Baden Powell House, SW7 As Fashion Week goes on, the chaos of your handbag can hit alarming proportions and it seemed Inbar Spector had picked up on this with her rucksack dresses – compartmented and pocketed to perfection; just what you need to keep track of your fashion week kit. Israeli born, London based Inbar is surely the queen of deft construction next to king, Bora Aksu. Each piece is cleverly corseted into couture-like creations with zips and straps galore-the only reminders that these garments started life as lowly rucksacks. The rough and ready combat material, a regularly fixture for any North Face fanatic, is given a fashion facelift next to more delicate silk and chiffon. Contrasting elements become a theme for Inbar: delicate versus heavy duty, simple colour spectrum versus highly technical design and the classic art of corsetry merged with the relatively modern rucksack. Stand out pieces include a nude PVC jumpsuit with lace and aertex panels – real craftsmanship was on show here – and the closing outfit – a white tulle gown with industrial strapped black waistcoat – which was reminiscent of a parachutist come in to land; daring and dramatic. Take note of this designer’s vision - the rucksack, as we know it, could be ready for a revolution. Words: Selene Pearson |
