Peter Pilotto

Peter Pilotto were on form at the Vauxhall Fashion Scout to launch
their inter galactic traveller clothing for aw08/09. Despite
interviewing Austrian Peter as a solo designer last season, this time
round he was appearing as one half of a design duo with Libyan
Christopher De Vos. One designer or two, this was a clever collection
full of clashing cosmic prints and fluid layers with a self-
proclaimed ‘rockabilly nomad’ feel.

Set somewhere in the future but with a bit of primitive traveller
thrown in, there are Star Trek strong-shouldered jackets belted with
coloured rope, slick tailoring with slouchy snoods and vintage cowboy
boots galore. Digital prints look like splattered experiments in
colour and are equally effective on baggy leggings as they are on a
jersey dress. Colours are earthy maroons, teals, mosses and greys, in
keeping with the natural textures – sheepskin accents and delicate
woollen numbers.

Although the designers declared the collection to be apocalyptic, the
clothes were far from disastrous. The layered, textured eco grunge
found its perfect partner in the sharp shapes thrown by the
intelligent tailoring. Judging from the crowd’s reaction, the
decision to boldly go where no designer had gone before paid off.
