Bernard Chandran

It’s been a fair few seasons since we’ve caught up with Bernard Chandran and whoever said absence makes the heart grow fonder knew a thing or two about fashion. Bernard’s s/s09 collection came complete with sci-fi shapes; jutting hip dresses, oversized fabric folds and the longest peaked caps we’ve ever witnessed.

The reference of Eastern Pop Culture was a bit lost on us clueless westerners but we liked the look of the stud-encrusted tunic dress and a zip front funnel neck shift. These are obviously dresses to have fun in (though navigating a dance floor with such pointy hips might be a problem) with hemlines short and hues bright.

Some metallic tailoring was thrown in for good measure and whilst the pegged trousers and cropped jacket didn’t make such good bedfellows, or rather catwalk fellows, individually they’re strong pieces.

Artfully skewed silhouettes and surprising details such as giant discs and wing-like panels made Bernard’s show worth catching; we’ll try not to leave it so long next time.
