Horace, founded by Adam Entwisle and Emma Hales, made their London Fashion Week debut last season despite running the brand successfully for seven years. Focusing on ‘desert survivors’ the s/s collection, which features both menswear and womenswear, looks a little stifling at first glance – too many black layers and boots. It’s only after you envisage the nomadic tribes of the desert, swathed in layer upon layer against the harsh climate that you can appreciate the design duo have hit upon something unique for a s/s collection.

The tribal influence means the silhouette is tunic-like with draped scarves and voluminous hoods but a futuristic element makes the designs modern. Tunics are paired with leather legwarmers whilst scarves are finished with black resin skulls. Oversized black studs adorn rope belts and look blinding on a thick tunic dress.

With a honed range of colours; black, taupe and occasionally a three tone of red white and grey, and a determined aesthetic carried throughout, the collection is focused without descending into repetitiveness. High points include butter-soft leather jackets for the girls and harem-style leather trousers paired with crochet hoodies for the guys. With design houses in both Bali and London, Horace has managed to blend handcrafted elements from the Far East with the grungy edge of our capital to great effect.
