Angel Jackson's ethical handbags

Disco Rainbow Jai Satchel £290.

In the growing market for fashion with a conscience, accessory label Angel Jackson is leading the way with luscious luxury bags which don't scream 'ethical design' and in 2009 the label is set to step-up its commitments to charity.

The Bristol-based was set up in 2005 by sisters Katie and Millie Smith and aims to be an international fashion label that doesn't exploit its workers or the environment. Some bags are made from recycled biker jackets and when snakeskin is used ( for example in the very popular Chandra clutch) the designers say it is always a bi-product of the food industry. Manufacturing takes place in Bali where the pair use fair trade workshops. Its signature motif is an 18 carat gold plated jaguar.

Despite the success of the label - it is now stocked in Harrods and Henri Bendell and fans include Alexa Chueng, Sienna Miller and Sophie Ellis Bextor - the designers are determined to keep their ethical credentials intact, which for them means paying all those involved in production properly as well as supporting education programmes for children in Calcutta. Currently, the founders are in the process of establishing a new charity for abandoned children in Bali and throughout 2009 there will be a monthly auction of an Angel Jackson bag to raise money for the various charities the company supports.

2009 will also see Angel Jackson show at the Esthetica section of the Exhibition during London Fashion Week.

The online boutique offers 20% off all purchases until midnight on December 18.
