The Look book turns into a regular club night @ Lost Society
How can you turn a book about adventures in rock and pop fashion into a stomping south London club night? Author Paul Gorman has pulled off this stroke of minor genius and is about to stage his second Look club night at Lost Society in Clapham on Thursday July 5. The mighty Kevin Rowland DJ-ed at The Look's debut night on June 7 and now Gorman has announced that next Thursday Glen Matlock will be manning the decks alongside designer/musician Keanan Duffty.
Both guest DJs have sterling credentials. Matlock is an original Pistol who has penned several punk classics including Anarchy In The UK, Pretty Vacant and God Save The Queen. Duffty deserves the quality following he has gained since graduating from Central Saint Martins back in the 80s. A Brit by birth, he moved to New York in 1993 where he set up his clothing label, Slinky Vagabond in 1999. Duffty began collaborations with Reebok in 2000, created dolls for Medicom, made limited edition T-shirts with David Sylvian and former Pistol's guitarist Steve Jones, created all the outfits for the Pistols' 2003 world tour, brought out his own scent with Aveda in 2005 and in January of this year, he was appointed consultant for Ben Sherman Tailoring.
His menswear and womenswear have attracted an impressive list of loyal customers which includes Aerosmith and David Bowie. In London he is stocked in Harvey Nicks but unfortunately he doesn't show on out catwalks - New Yorkers have been treated to some compelling Duffty shows - one featured no models just Barbie dolls sent out on a conveyor belt.
Keanan Matlock and former Blondie drummer Clem Burke and Bowie guitarist Earl Slick are forming a new band together called...you guessed it, Slinky Vagabond of course!
The Look @ Lost Society will also feature performances from three international artists, Tokyo's Control Freak!!, Molly Jean from Detroit and Fine Arts Showcase from Malmo, Sweden.
Tickets are just £5. If you go, hunt down Gorman and tell him he has to invite Lanvin's artistic director, sometime DJ and top dude, Albert Elbaz.
Words: Marian Buckley.
