Burberry bashing

The Football Factory's tartan troublemakers

May 14th sees the release of The Football Factory, a film in which some football hooligans don their Burberry caps with pride whilst carrying out acts of violence. The film is based on a novel by John King and is seen through the eyes of Chelsea fan Tommy Johnson. Burberry sales could be affected by this especially in light of recent reports that bouncers are refusing admission to geezers in Burberry caps and sun visors. Burberry's signature check aka London tartan, was a big hit with the football Casuals back in the mid-1970s and early '80s. While social commentators are concerned that the film reinforces English football fans' already dismal reputation in the run-up to Euro 2004, The Football Factory is unremorseful. "This is England's worse nightmare. Enjoy it." says the publicity blurb. FHM magazine said it's "Trainspotting wrapped in Burberry", while style icon and talented geezer Mike Skinner alias The Streets reckons that "it's all about hoolies, wifebeaters and some quality fashions". There is also range of Football Factory merchandise for those that want it.
