Wang cops TopShop

Debut designer launches into the high street

Designer Simon Wang who debuted at On|Off during September 2004's London Fashion Week, is to sell a small collection through TopShop. Originally from Mongolia, Simon studied fashion at Ravensbourne College and was due to show during February's Fashion Week, but when a courier company tragically lost several pieces from his collection, he had to cancel the show. This season, Simon's luck has definitely taken a turn for the better. His show at the Royal Academy went without a hitch - his collection, The Tango, fused both Chinese and European influences into colourful and dramatic womenswear with a strong emphasis on cashmere. Simon's collection for TopShop will feature some signature pieces and be available from the TopShop flagship store in Oxford Circus for one month from February 2005. Along with fellow designers Gozi, Michelle David and Koru, Wang has been given the opportunity to sell a capsule range in-store with help from the London Fashion Forum. Wang is said to be thrilled, but now facing another challenge: looking for backing to help with production costs. Anyone interested in investing in this designer should contact paul@theblueberryconsultancy.co.uk.
