Santa's Ghetto 2
Alternative art Christmas is back
Last Christmas, Santa's Ghetto was the alternative Christmas shop experience - a temporary space in Carnaby which housed graffiti artworks. The Ghetto is back and this time it's even better with an in-house bar and works by Hewlett, Banksy, Faile, 3D, Sickboy and many others. 2004's Ghetto is located in Soho where, in true local style, it's housed in a former porn shop on the Charing Cross Road.
Last year, apart from Banksy's T-shirts and graffiti prints, there wasn't a lot at the Ghetto which begged to be bought for Crimbo, but this year organisers Pictures On Walls have come up with a cracking range of products to buy. There are shopping bags (Perfect Prince by Faile is great), Sports Bags, T-shirts (Tagger Scum, Hated By The Daily Mail) all priced £19.99 and sweatshirts by Mode 2 (£39.99). sticky tape (£5) and a wall calendar (£5). You can also purchase prints of the works on show priced from £39.99 to £300. On December 11, Insect will be instore selling a range of one-off stocking filler graf goodies and December 13 sees the launch of Banksy's latest book, 'Cut It Out'. Fans of the stencil master are unlikely to get to meet him though - he's not expected to attend at all, although he may, like last year, hang out around the corner.
- Santa's Ghetto is open from now until December 24 at 121-125 Charing Cross Road, London WC2. Open Mon-Weds and Fri & Sat 10am-8pm, Sun 11am-5pm and Thurs 10am-9pm. For more information telephone: 020 7377 1500.
