Celebrating British Asian fashion talents
You can suss out emerging fashion talents from the British Asian communities this week at two events. Asian Dreams is supported by Newham College and takes place on Tuesday, July 5 at the Fashion and Textiles Museum in SE1.
It showcases work by Asian fashion and textile designers and includes a catwalk show by this year's winner of Alternative Fashion Week's Swatch Individual Designer Award, Sonal Patel. The Westminster graduate, who lives in New Malden is currently taking part in a 10 week online Designer Diary and will also be decking out Ms Scandalous for her performance.
On Friday, July 10 the Asian Lifestyle Show will open its doors at Olympia featuring four catwalk shows a day (at 11am, 1pm, 3pm) and stands selling a huge variety of Asian clothes and accessories. No matter what your ethnic origins, there's a wealth of emerging British/Asian design talent worth checking out including Kent's Bombay Boutique, London label Khushbu, Ice & Spice from Kingsbury, Birmingham's Diva Exclusive and the Southwark Muslim's Women's Association which specialises in Indian clothing. Accessory label Aftershock has some bang-on wooden jewellery, brooches and new range of shoes which includes summery wedge-heels.
