Fabric8's doors are open

Virtual boutique goes physical in San Fran

Flippin' heck. In 1995 Olivia Ongpin and Antony Quintal of Fabric8 launched their own boutique selling selected wares by San Francisco-based designers and artists. Over a decade they've built up a huge following as well as a global reputation for sourcing trendsetting treasures from quriky tech-friendly togs, to sound-as-a-pound T-shirts..
Earlier this year, Olivia and Antony opened the doors of Fabric8's first physical boutique at 3318 22nd Street, in the Mission District. They work on the website out back, so even though the official weekday opening times are 5pm-7pm, you'll usually find the 'open' sign up, and you just ring the bell for entry. At weekends the shop is open 11am-7pm and, like the website, operates a collaborative policy with artists and designers. Inside you'll find wood-stained walls by local artists, a showcase of vintage pieces accumulated by artist/DJ Romanowski as well artworks and collectibles by Brett Amory, Brian Barneclo, Buder, Ezra Li Eismont, Ferris Plock, Ian Scalzo, Mars-1 and UFO.

Olivia told us:"We wanted to do something we couldn't do online, which is offer one-of-a-kind items like art, toys, and collectibles. we also sell cool baby and toddler clothes." Currently, we like really the Robot jackes ($150), Tennis ($60) and Iris ($74) skirts by Eat Design and the Plain Shirts for men by University of Fuck ($90). What Fabric8 is so well known for is offering up new stock all the time and that's why as a website, it's always been ace to visit. So, if you have the joy and luck of being in the area (it's near near Lucca's Deli and Boogaloos) drop by, have a look and buy something from these dedicated fashion folk.

  • Fabric8 can also be open by appointment, telephone: 415 647 5888.
