This post is principally to "vent". Please try and refrain from telling me that I'm an idiot as I'm abundantly aware of that fact already.

Was sending a new Belstaff Roadmaster (RRP £550) to the States two weeks ago. Private sale and paid for via Paypal. Was rushing to get it to Post Office on the Monday morning as I was going away for the remainder of the week and was generally stressed out as I had a million other things to do besides. Paid for postage via Royal Mail's website, but instead of the usual tracked and insured option I went with no tracking and no insurance. Didn't realise that I hadn't selected those options at the time. Usully go with tracking and insurance especially when shipping outside the UK and when the item is expensive and anyway those options only cost only a few quid more.

Jacket's gone predictably gone missing. I'm basically screwed, aren't I? Royal Mail will offer some limited compensation, but beyond that I'll need to absorb the loss completely, won't I?

I am so gutted as it's a essentially £200 down the drain. And I would have quite happily have kept this particular Roadmaster as it was a nice colour.

They guy I sent it to sounds okay, but there's a little devil on my shoulder whispering "what if he's noticed that no signature was required and is shafting you". I honestly don't think this is the case and I sound a cock for even mentioning it, but as I said I'm venting.

Anyway, I sent it on the 1st and it's still not there. Should I write it off by now? 5-7 working days was the estimate of delivery time.

Lack of tracking aside that's not unsual when it comes to postage to the states, give it 2 more weeks before writing it off as lost.

This etc.

5-7 days is literally nothing, if he hasn't had it after 2-3 weeks that's when you need to worry. 2 weeks is no problem. USPS are about 50 times less efficient than RM so depending on where exactly in the country you've sent it, it could take the better part of a month easy.

I've had stuff sent (tracked) that's just sat in the NY or DC depot for weeks while USPS get cwoffee and donuts.

Why is the service so shit exactly? Best part of a month to send an item to the US from the UK is ridiculous, though I know from experience it's true. Makes sending out small items there a total pain.

That's reassuring. It's approaching the three week mark soon, so I thought that was it lost.

For one, they're totally broke, I think my pops was telling me last week they're defaulting on a loan and losing like 20 million a day. It's a big lumbering shitty giant.

Edit: It's 25 mil http://www.businessweek.com/articles/2012-08-01/what-the-u-dot-s-dot-postal-service-default-really-means

Jacket ain't gone nowhere. The tanks robbed you and you allowed him too. Or if he's a nice bloke and not a teef it might still turn up.

Their website is down just now. What time do I need to post an envelope to guarantee it will arrive at the destination next day?

Before the last collection of the day, which varies from place to place but is often around 5pm.

Same query as before, waiting on some virgils from Singapore and getting impatient. Is it normal to have been in processing in UK for 2 weeks??

Turns out... I got this guy to chase them up and see where they are, as I'd not heard from customs. He says there's been a terrible mistake by singapoore post (don't know if its his mistake or theirs) and they have sent by ship so they should be with me in aprox' 5 weeks Sad Although on the plus side the guy has offered me 30% return on what I paid so over £100 which is reasonable

Just be aware that in that length of time you'll either be close to or past the length of time which PayPal allows you to make a claim (I can't remember if it's 45 days or 60 days to make a claim)

To be clear, there's fuck all I can do regarding this parcel going missing save for filing a claim for Royal Mail's basic compensation, which I have no doubt will in itself be akin to pulling teeth?
