How to reduce TCP connections

I've typed in netstat -a into cmd and come up with a lot of TCP connections.

I've run a couple of different spyware progs which all say i'm ok,

any ideas how to reduce what's going on?

I don't think i should have this many (about 25)

thanks

Are you running any P2P stuff?

This would suggest Skype may be the culprit:

In fact reading further 25 TCP connections with those running sounds OK.

Akamai sounds OK:
Akamai Technologies, Inc. NASDAQ: AKAM, headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is a corporation that provides, among other services, global Internet content caching.

Akamai is a Hawaiian word meaning "intelligent" or "clever." Beyond the name, the company has no ties with Hawaii.

Their customers include Yahoo!, AOL Radio, Symantec, Microsoft, FedEx, Xerox, iVillage, Apple Computer, Music Television (MTV), the United States Geological Survey and Reuters.
Not sure why it would cause so many TCP connections though. Would emptying cache/deleting cookies maybe make some difference?

What kind fo firewall are you using ? Can't that help you block these sites from connecting to you ?

However, if your using thinks like E-mule not allowing TCP connections lowers your rating and slows your downloads.
