Might be useful for someone thats with O2
If anyone has a O2 contract, you can cancel now penalty free. This is what you must do:
Write a simple letter to their disconnections department (USE ROYAL MAIL RECORDED DELIVERY)
Write in your letter that because O2 has changed your terms and conditions using charging for ringing 07744 & 07755 numbers that this put`s you at a disadvantage under clause 8.4 c of your terms.
At the moment O2 let you ring 07744 & 07755 numbers out of your free x minutes, but from the 1st July they will charge you 25p a minute.
This is your get out of contract free.

Technically though if you had recently got a phone through them with the intention of cancelling, is the phone not their property, therefore they can ask for it back or for payment of the phone's value.

i just copy and pasted it from moneysavingexpert.com to be honest.. i guess they have changed there T&C recently so if you wanted to get out of a contract it would be a good time.
i paid about £200 to finish a contract with them a few months ago

Well that's the thing, yes you would be able to break the contract, but they have every right to demand their phone back.

Those numbers are used to make cheap calls abroad, they route the calls through.
I read the whole of the money saving expert piece and it seems they aren't cancelling all contracts, and if you haven't used these numbers a fair bit you'd struggle to prove the changed Ts and Cs affected you greatly. If you got an O2 phone in July they would never have been in your free calls bit.
Basically there is a chance you could get out of your contract but it will probably be quite an effort now.

hahahah!!! ive heard that one loads of times!
there really shouldnt be a termination department that you need to speak to as from what i know to be true, you have to write a letter giving 30 days notice to end your contract. they probably want to try and save you and want you to be transferred to their saves dept that are not open....on a monday????!!!!! hmmmm.
if you know you are right and that 02 are screwing ya, then ask them for the number for OFCOM the ombudsmen who will help you to create a claim...this will make them know you are serious. i think t-dot knows more about OFCOMthough, so may be worth PM'ing him.
02 are scum fella, go with red, you know it makes sense.

guess what.. they offered me a knockdown price, and said the person i has spoken to was MIS-INFORMED. yeah, i thought, so i decided to give them a piece of my mind and cancelled the contract!..
i find it unbelievable that a big company such as that would resort to that..!..
anyway..thnx for the comments - appreciate them!
safman..
