I have five days worth of work in two documents which I cannot open. Final exams are next week and I dont have the time to go over all the material again. If someone can recover my notes from these two documents ill send them £20 via paypal straight away.

I have used open office (on my mac) as well as ms word on the uni computers for writing. I have (in hindsight quite stupidly) always been saving and working on these documents directly from my USB stick. For some reason some of my .doc files can no longer be opened. When I try to open them using open office I get a message about ASCII Filter Options and then the document itself is just a bunch of symbols. When I try MS word it comes up with a message saying "Word cannot start the converter mswrd632.wpc" and then I get a bunch of symbols.

Im in a tight spot and would really appreciate any help. Please email maxgw88@googlemail.com if you want me to send you the files.

Edit** changed to £20

You can also access your corrupt file text data in a different way as follows:

1. Start Microsoft Word
2. Go to File menu
3. Select Open and open dialogue box appears
4. Select the file
5. Select Recover Text from any file (*.*) as your Files of type as below from the file type list.

Thanks for all the help. Still no luck so far. The uni computers wont let me play with the registry and don’t have a windows pc myself. I’ll up the ‘reward’ to £20 as it seems that it isnt so easy…

Is it possible that this has happened due to a virus? I ask because all the files in one of my folders on the usb stick have now got lots of strange symbols as the name?! Such as.. * Û£ Yêë. qã

think it's more likely that the usb stick has been dropped or something.. or the files haven't saved over properly. i ran them through a few recovery programs and tried loads of word processors and file extensions... don't think they're recoverable mate Sad
