Topboy,it has been given another series I obviously a bit late with this news, but I can't say I'm thrilled with it to be honest. I know Topboy got a fair amount of praise(and criticism)but I didn't rate it. It just didn't feel like an really honest portrayal of life in a London council estate (nor entirely it's criminal activities either). It felt like Bullet boy's brand of provocative "this is life in the streets-as told by middle class outsiders" bleak film making mixed with The Wire. I wouldn't have minded so much, but I thought Topboy's selling point was how realistic it was. I know the guy who wrote it did a load of interviews and research and whatever, but it just felt so deliberately one sided in it's portrayal of "inner city London street life". It did have poignant moments and was skilfully shot, but I couldn't rate it. |
