APC Jeans Fit Guide

New Standard: Essentially “the standard” jean, regular fit in the rise/waist, with a straight leg, tapering only slightly from the knee to hem.

New Cure: The New Cure is the low rise, skinny jean of the group. Unlike the New Standard, the New Cure tapers from the thigh to hem, making a much more narrow silhouette.

Petite Standard: The Petite Standard is essentially a combination of the New Standard and the New Cure. Think of this as a slimmer New Standard with a lower rise like the New Cure.

SIZING

One of the key things to getting a pair of APC jeans is picking the correct size. Usually, people size down 1-2 sizes from their normal size. The reason for this is raw denim will stretch out once worn for a few times.

CARE

APC are raw (also called dry) jeans, which basically means they have not been washed after dyed. This means that when you try them on, they will feel slightly stiff. This is the nature of raw denim. The appeal with raw denim is that over time, they fade and wear onto your body, essentially making your pair completely unique and personal.

The best way to get a great pair of APC’s that fit perfectly and are faded and creased to your body is to WEAR THEM! Most recommend not washing them for at least 6 months so that the fabric has time to set in and mold to you. By waiting, when it comes time to wash you will get more denim fades and a more personal look. However, you can always throw them in the wash first thing and have them come out soft and a more even, relaxed color. Always wash by itself as there will be a lot of indigo that bleeds off the jeans in the wash.

You'll not find anything with a rise as big as those barclay.

Beginner question - I have a pair of New Cure which I want to get hemmed and maybe tapered.

Will the leg length and hem stretch with wear? If so, how do I know what length to have them hemmed to?

thigh definitely stretches, a bit on the calf but never really noticed the hem stretching. if you wanna be on the safe side i'd do a real small cold soak first to get it to shrink to what it will be after.

By the way there were some 27 and 26 waist New Standards in the Carhartt outlet at the weekend, off London Fields, for £60. One pair of 27s and three or four 26s. Really small in the seat for me (true 32) but if you're a true 28 or 30 you could squeeze into them and wear them in.

Just to clarify, there is no longer vanity sizing for both the PS or New Cure jeans? So the advice is to go TTS?

Right so I'm currently in a pair of TTS new cure, but they are at that transition point between office wear and casual wear, so I want another pair of APC.

This time around I want a slim/straight fit - what do I go for New Standard size down 2? or Petit Standard size 1?

MerciBeau, if you do please ask a member of staff regarding the vanity sizing so we can get confirmation on it and stick the answer in the main post so it isn't dragged up again and again. If it is true then they would have only changed it this season, but then their mainline denim (raw denim) isn't seasonal and is made year round so it would seem hard to phase it in.
