Well thanks for the feedback but I have to say your comments so far sound to me like they come from an 8 year old. The site's deliberately been kept simple as I've been focusing on functionality rather than putting on flashy animation or anything that would clutter the screen unnecessarily. Since different people are using different web browsers, fonts and screen resolutions it may look different on different computers but have tried to keep it at least visible on 95% of what's out there (would recommend using the latest version of Mozilla Firefox).

Maybe you could give some more info on why you think it looks so rubbish, are you just talking about the look of the home page or the search page as well?

It does look bad. Extremely amateurish. Looks like the internet did in the early 90s. You don't need to use flash to make it asthetically pleasing. It may work great but if somebody sees that site they're gonna navigate away immediately because they'll assume it's no good. That's not an insult, that's just fact.

Aesthetically its a disgrace, because of that I don't trust it. Looks like a scam site if you wanted an honest opinion.

layout of the site is shit, colour scheme is wrong your graphics are basic, even the main image on the front page is out of focus and pixelated, looks very amateurish

The name is poor, and the site design is well over 10 years old. It looks like a GCSE project from a very lazy student.
For about 99% of eBay searches peoplem don't really care where they're buying it from.

OK well I'll take all your comments on board and work on the main page. To be honest I've been putting most of my efforts into making the main search engine and parsing of results work well but I guess it's first impressions that count with most people. As for the pixelated screen resolution I kept the file size as small as possible so that the home page would load quickly but I guess most people have broadband these days anyway so maybe I'll go for higher quality there...

I don't know about 99%. OK, the majority of searches people don't care but what about cars or collection only items such as my old CRT widescreen TV that I'm currently selling - no way am I going to the Post Office with that! In future am planning to add a feature that will let you save a search in the same way as you can on eBay but with the extra options of specifying the total price or a very short distance (e.g. <1 mile) from home. These are features that eBay just don't provide that I wanted for a long time (maybe it's just me...)

well, I would just make your site look as good if not better than goofbay since it does exactly the same thing, good luck the owner is a master salesman.

Yeah, I'll certainly aim to make it look a bit better but it doesn't do the same thing as goofbay at all. Posted on here because of a previous thread by that guy who got some constructive comments. Don't get me wrong, appreciate the feedback given and as said will be taking some of it on board but have to say I'm a bit disappointed in the sneering tone of some of the comments. As for the comment before about who wants a crt, that's exactly what eBay's for - always people out there to give a new lease of life to things that would otherwise go to the dump.

The goof bay guy has been posting on here for numerous years and is highly regarded, so take that into account at some peoples reactions. Eye-wink

c'mon, you register here just to pimp your site and you expect a positive welcome on a fashion forum for a website that looks c. 1994, that's just not how it goes

It's like walking into a locals pub and the pool game stopping. Don't worry, I'll get me coat (and yes i know that's such a 90's expression).
