Best: Got a new job, good little pay rise from what I am currently on and better prospects.

Worst: Got to tell my current boss tomorrow, and need him to let me leave 2 weeks early from my notice period :/ not sure if he will bite because it would mean both me and my Deputy manager leaving the store on the same date.

Bester: 2 Weeks training in Belfast with the new company.

Worst: 72 Hours weeks at Christmas Sad

Such is life in retail management :/ gotta be done.

It's only a worst case scenario, but you gotta be prepared for it, do 50 a week average over the year at the moment anyway, so it's not much of a problem for me. The big thing is getting into a better looking company.

Who do you work for/what kind of retailing? If you don't mind me asking

Currently at a games retailer, moving to another company which is very seasonal, they sell toys but it's not toys r us.

So most weeks I will just do my standard 40 and be done with it but over Christmas and such we end up doing much more, been doing it since I was 18 though so I'm used to it and the main thing I will be getting here is better prospects by getting into a company that is expanding a lot at the minute and set myself up to get to a decent level in the company faster than I currently could.

Are you at management level?

Sorry for all the questions, just interested as I'm in same line of work.

Yeah, I am currently the store manager and taking a role of duty manager at the new place, pretty much the same work wise as they are much higher turnover. As soon as you get onto salary you end up putting in big hours when it's crunch time, it's worth it though if you want to advance because the sooner you get out of store and into regional level management all that stops, then it turns into early morning and long drives but a pretty relaxed Christmas and weekends to yourself.

Retail management isn't for everyone and with most companies feeling the recession then management become the squeezed middle so it's harder now than I have ever seen it.

Edit: and now I have a counter offer, what to do????

Leave. Gamestation and Game have shown quite a bit of decline in the last few years, you're better off going somewhere with a real chance of growth. Gamestation must be hell on earth too.
