Was it a gradual drop in pressure or a sudden one?

With a gradual drop in pressure our plumber told us that you need to top up the boiler's system with water, and showed us where the tap was to do this (ours was on the cold water inlet pipe, directly below the boiler).

To top up the pressure you need to open the valve on the filling loop.

Filling loop looks like this: http://www.toolstation.com/images/library/stock/webbig/35419.jpg ...open the valve until the correct pressure is reached, there should be a pressure gauge on your boiler which indicates the correct pressure.

***I'm no boiler expert either, and only mess with around with what I know***

btw, a loss of pressure indicates a leak. Go run your finger around every visible plumbing joint on every rad in the house for signs of one.

Again, I'm no expert but it I'm assuming the filling loop is done in copper instead of hose. One of those gold vales will be closed. You open and close the valves with the slotted head screw on it. If the screw slot is inline with the valve it's open, if it's running across the value, it's closed. (the valve in the middle of the picture is open)

Find a closed one Eye-wink

edit: I googled and apparently the Vaillant ecomax boilers have built in filling loops, look for 2 black levers somewhere on the right side of the boiler.

I did find the thing about the levers when I googles it, but they arent there, the manual says that the the pipes underneith are cold water service valve (middle one I think) service valves in heating flow fold ends on left and right and gas service valve (middle rear) do you think I should try and open the front cold Water one ?

I dunno, I read the manual and it doesn't even mention a filling loop for the 600 series, does for 800 series. Do you have a water tank in the house?

The red thing on the right is a pressure release value

Get your head right under the boiler, we've got a Vaillant too and all the pipes are labelled. On ours the gas is the middle one, and the Cold Water Mains Inlet is second from the left. The tap on that pipe on ours is really far down the pipe (ie not near the boiler) behind some kitchen drawers. Black plastic tap on the pipe. Yours could well be different though.

edit: Cold Water Mains Inlet is second from the right! Oops Laughing out loud

yeah there is a seperate water cylinder, ch and hot water both not working, pressure down on hot water cylinder too, might try and represurise that, they are linked by the programmer, so it may be a problem with the cylinder that has triggered the low boiler pressure.

Cheers andy,
will have a closer look at the bits under the boiler when I get home

FIXED !!! billhicks, youve provided the solution. Im not sure how this has worked, but in the hot water cylinder cup'd, there is a silver coil, exactly like the one you posted the pic of. I opened the black levers on that and water started shooting in, this got the pressure up in this, which in turn sparked the boiler into action, pressure up, heating on, water getting hot.

Cheers for the help, FUK you rock Cool
