Going to Brighton for a few days with the ball and chain from the 1st (coming back the 6th) and wanted some local info if poss (been before but not for a while).

Cheap place to park? Probably won't actually use the car much when we're there so doesn't need to be central, don't fancy paying £15 a day though.
Anything on that we might fancy? Thinking of StoneLove on the Friday but not sure if we'd feel too old?
A low-key hip hop night would be good if there are any on.
A gym that is open to anyone (preferably where they won't want an induction before using it)?
Any restaurants you'd recommend?
Any shops we might not find just from wandering around or we shouldn't miss?
Anything else you think we should see or do?

Apologies for all the questions!

Don't forget to 'do' Hove - nice bars up nr Palmeira Sq. I actually prefer it up that end to Brighton proper.

Dog track is good for a craic and a few beers.

You shouldn't really fail to have a good time in Brighton though - just a nice walk up to the Marina or Hove Lawns does the trick for me.

You could try the Moma Cherris Soul Food thing that was on Gordon Ramsey: http://www.brightonlife.com/american-restaurants/momma-cherris-soul-food-shack-100051.html

Don't forget the strip of restaurants on Preston St - China Garden is a v good old school Chinese:

parking wise if you dont mind a walk out of town park on one of the roads up from the level (big park with skate park etc in) go up southover street and you should find somewhere on one of those roads where you can leave it relativly safely for a few days just be sure to check any restrictions but when i lived there that was always the closest to central free parking.

Looks ok and location is alright... i've always stayed in cheap places to the west of the pier and they have always been fine. What's the occasion?

Oh yeah, and MoB, the area, and that gaff's fine, I stayed about 2 streets over last year for Valentines.

Out of your street, straight over the road is a restaurant called 'Terraces', big glass walled place overlooking the sea. Looks nice, but don't be fooled, the food there is utter shite. Everything's served on a 'bed of jasmine rice' and the bowl or bread cost about £4.

Had a lovely time.
Didn't hear back from Jake in the end. No-one else suggested meeting up.
Took some nice shots in Sealife (if MoB or anyone fancies going book through lastminute.com for 1/2 price entry) and some nice seagull action Cool will put pics up when I've sorted them out.

Greys Hotel is a good choice...good food especially. I havn't stayed there but only heard great things about it. It isn't so big that it feels impersonal either.

I think I'm taking my bird to the Hotel Du Vin/Bistro Du Vin for valentines. Definately a place to check out if you havn't already been. Expensive for non-Londoners but worth the price. The wine prices are a bit rape, especially as it could be a £4 bottle from Sainsbo's for all I know.

That place had a terrifying Santa Bear there over Christmas, I'll get the pic up in a minute.

The Madiera used to be the best place in Brighton by a country mile, but they've been taken over by a harvester now and it's shit.
