Right i need your views on this one, A guy turned up to work today who has worked hard for us for a few years and i recently put him forward for a promotion which my dad gave him. He is now one of the top earners at our company as a member of the senior management and is required to meet with our clients some of which are very large multi national companies and discuss there needs from us and secure contracts. Anyway he turned up earlier this week (first week in his new role and first day) i no snob the worst most cheapest looking suit i have ever seen he looked like one of those guys you see in pubs selling shite from suitcases and he has to go out for a meeting with a large pharmaceutical company director, basically i told him that i would go and made an excuse that he had to stay in the office. what i want to know is am i being a cunt if i tell him to buy a decent suit? bear in mind he has just had a 40% pay rise? i would say that you should spend at least £500 on a business suit would you say i was being out of order saying this to him?

I wouldnt say spending 500 quid on a suit will immediately give the wow factor. Simply get a suit taloried obviously paying for the better quality material. This can cost from 250 for two piece or 500 for a 3 piece.

End of the day, its how its worn and whether the material looks expensive. A mate ran a suit business whilst at uni doing 2 pc tailored suits for the 150 mark and they were nice! Very decent material because when I used to work in Selfridges, he would come in with his little material sample book and wed go round armani, boss etc comparing the feels and weights of material. Obviously the branded stuff was alot better but the quality still was decent compared to it but at a tenth of the price.

How shit must the suit be? I mean I've seen mates of mine try on hm suits and look slick in them and you don't get much cheaper than that. Looking presentable shouldn't be that hard or even mean having to spend 500 it's not like clients are going to be examining the fabric and shit

No but the nicer materials look alot smoother, glossy in some cases, less wrinkled, they dont look thick and are more liberal in movement.

Im sure his clients will be able to tell somehow since they will be suit wearers themselves.

Would you be offended if somebody told you your grasp of English is equal to that of a 5 year old?

Why not invite him out shopping, show him how it's done, and insist he gets one for himself?

if the way he is dressing is not portraying an image which reflects well on the company then you should definitely tell him. but be nice

mate you can, ive got a few suits made at that price for whilst i was on my industry exp. through uni.

basically the process of mine was that the guy took measurements, sent the measurements to hong kong, the suit was made there and then sent back. thats how it was cheap and of course, well decent material. one my suits i think was made in thailand as well.

if i was at my parents place i could have taken some pics but you can get quality 2 pieces at that price.

You cant expect him to spend £500 of his own money on something that is for your benifit only. Was image said to him when he join the company?

Are you sure its not only you with this opinion of him? because you enjoy are into fashion?

The only reason I ask I am working currently in the crown courts, with loads of powerful people, everyone is scruffy as hell people have huge wages! they dont give a shit about image its how they perform in the workplace and their skills rather than image. Define a person by their actions and performance, not because they look nice.

its not just my oppinion and he can wear what he likes in the office but when he goes out to meet people i would like him to look presentable and in my eyes that means taking pride in the way you look and you cant do that in a suit that would fits someone who weighed 3 stone more than you.

Let's bear in mind that the reason we're all on this site because we're all interested in fasion in some way. You just need to look down your local high street to see that joe public isn't. As Sid Vicious so accurately said, "I've met the man in the street, and he's a cunt."

I worked beside fund managers earning over a mill a year and you'd have thought they bought their clothes at Oxfam on once a decade visits. I guess it just depends how important looks are in your field and if how someone dresses would overshadow their ability, no matter how good they are.
